GLM Sustainable continues its efforts to alleviate environmental impact and foster a culture of caring for our resources. In the framework of COP16, students from this group have been working to explain what this event is about and the relevance of Colombia as the host of this globally impactful meeting.

COP16 is an opportunity for our school to continue discussing biodiversity and how we can strengthen initiatives that have been developed over the years.

1. School garden and green spaces: To teach students about ecosystem conservation, healthy eating, and the importance of green spaces in urban areas.

2. Workshops, meetings, and educational activities to raise environmental awareness among students and staff, addressing topics such as climate change, biodiversity, and sustainability. These activities also allow for the proposal of solutions to global environmental issues.

3. Waste separation at the source (bins for different types of waste, battery collection, Tetra Pak container collection, plastic cap collection, among others): Within the school, we ensure that students and staff properly separate waste and recycle.

4. Awareness program on the circular economy within the educational community: Integrating efficient resource use and waste reduction into school projects.

5. Reduction of plastic use in the school: Promoting sustainable alternatives.

September 30 to October 4, 2024
The students from the GLM Sustainable group will use various methodologies to explain what COP16 is, its focus on biodiversity, and the relevance of Colombia as the host country. The activity aims to help our students understand the impact of global decisions on biodiversity conservation and the importance for a country as rich in natural resources as Colombia.

Tuesday, October 15 to Friday, October 25, 2024
The GLM Sustainable group will analyze some global environmental challenges. During this activity, students will examine the major environmental problems facing humanity in the 21st century, including climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and natural resource depletion.

The following cases will be analyzed:

Deforestation in the Amazon: Impact on biodiversity and climate change.

Plastic pollution in the oceans: Threat to marine life and the human food chain.

Biodiversity loss: Species extinction and its consequences for ecosystems.

Climate change: Extreme weather events and their impact on vulnerable communities.

Industrial agriculture: Effects on soil and ecosystems.

This is a global platform where 196 countries come together to discuss how to halt biodiversity loss by 2030. From October 21 to November 1, 2024, experts from around the world will meet in Cali, Colombia, to discuss, deliberate, and generate joint actions in favor of protecting nature.
