Social Commitment

For 36 years we have provided holistic education that balances academic excellence with human development. We have been avant-garde in education rising the highest potential of our students within an environment protective, careful, and respectful of individuality.

At our school, social commitment goes beyond classrooms. We are proud to contribute to the progress of Colombia by being active agents that provide tools and programs responding and offering solutions to its circumstances. The way we understand the intricacies of the world, our global citizenship being, and our contributions to Colombia are the seals defining the Gimnasio La Montaña and its educational community.

Our departing point in the task commissioned by families trusting Gimnasio La Montaña and the allies to multiple projects developed at a national level is our responsibility to impact the society by providing tools and abilities to people involved in our education duties, as well as in the care provided to the focus groups benefiting from our programs. Our commitment is evident in these aspects that we have been promoting:

1. Differentiation programs

One of our objectives is to look after the individuality and specific needs of students, and since we know that each person learns and grows in a unique way, we offer special tutoring and curricular accommodations for each student to reach their highest potential.

2. Inclusion program

At Gimnasio La Montaña we have students, in different classes, with a diagnosis of learning disabilities. We have created opportunities and specific tutoring plans with supporting teaching and professional staff who devised curricular accommodations and modifications depending on each student´s needs.

3. Support to public education

The Gimnasio La Montaña has a profound social commitment supporting 11 public schools in Bogotá and one in Barú increasing the quality of education for around 12.000 children and teens in Colombia. We do this through the Alianza Educativa organization, together with the Universidad de Los Andes, and allies such as the Los Nogales school, and the San Carlos school. At this moment, Presidency  of this organization is in the hands of the Principal at Gimnasio La Montaña.

4. Commitment to childhood and young people childhood and young people

Red PaPaz, organización que cuida a los adolescentes y a los niños en Colombia, fue fundada en el Gimnasio La Montaña hace 20 años y hoy ofrece una variedad de programas para seguir atendiendo a esta población en todo el territorio nacional.

5. Partnership with vulnerable communities

We shared our best practices and pedagogical resources, and we provided installed and available facilities for 50 schools in the Chocó region because we know about Choco´s educational needs. We made part of the project Aulas sin Fronteras (Classrooms without Borders) together with other schools belonging to UNCOLI (Union of International Schools) which was also supported by the Ministry of National Education in Colombia.

6. Culture of Honesty

We promote the program “Zero Cheating” to vanish dishonesty in the school environment and foster ethical values among the students.

7. Social service to continuously impact communities

Our students participate in activities involving community service by creating programs (Melao) and activities that benefit the children of our general services and operations employees. These children are invited to field trips that teach them about our national territory and strengthen their competences and abilities improving their future personal and professional lives.

Likewise, another group of students called Fanzaquira assists, along the whole national territory, situations of disaster or calamity. Propelled by what learned at Gimnasio La Montaña, these students organize campaigns to collect donations for those in need.

8. Commitment to the employees and their families

At the core of our institution, we also live the values and recognize the importance of generating protective environments. For this reason, we offer our general service employees benefits in educational programs for all their children in school ages, equivalent to the 20% of the full amount of our tuition fees. These decisions, which became traditions at our school, also benefit our teaching and administrative staff with a full scholarship (100%) for one of their children to study at GLM.

Our mission is to make of this, a more equitable society offering opportunities to reach the peak – that one required for each of us to succeed.
