Academic proposal

At Gimnasio La Montaña we offer a Catholic formation, respectful of the freedom of worship.

At Gimnasio La Montaña we deeply value the sense of transcendence and the development of spirituality in the formation of our students. In that sense, and faithful to Christian values, we are committed to offering a religious education based on the teachings of the Catholic Church, and we do so with the same seriousness and rigor with which we approach all our tasks. We intend to provide our students with spaces for the growth of faith, the development of values, and the knowledge of doctrine. We embrace the ecumenical spirit of our Church and do not demand the practice of our creed as a requirement to be part of the school. Indeed, in our community, we have families of different faiths and some who are not practicing any religion. However, all our students are invited to attend our religious education and values education programs.

In the Curriculum:

From the first arrival to La Montaña and up to ninth grade, our students are trained in the doctrinal principles of the Catholic Church in parallel with education in morals and values. We start from the ecumenical spirit and interreligious dialogue with the intention that students know their own creed but are also able to identify others, which also enriches the cultural background.

In Preschool and up to third grade we want students to live their relationship with the God that loves us, cares for us, and always accompanies us. For this reason, we have implemented the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, in which we provide a space in which children learn about the life of Jesus and his teachings, understand the sacraments, and have moments of spontaneous prayer accompanied by songs.

Our curricular structure in the area of Religion seeks to respond to the challenges that today’s world poses. That is why, for us, it is so important that students learn religious concepts and that they can apply them in real contexts of their lives. For this reason, a pedagogical strategy is to work in class based on cases; Thus, for example, in 9th grade, young people manage to analyze moral and bioethical dilemmas typical of the reality of the country, and we seek to work in activities that contribute to the promotion of human dignity and social justice from different perspectives (what is contemplated by the Law and the view of the Church). All the courses develop particular values and get involved in social projects such as Fraternity Day or activities led by the Social Action Club, Fanzaquira.

    • Our celebrations 

Regarding the sacramental life in GLM, the students attend the celebration of mass once a month, for which we have two chaplains; one for primary school children and another for high school students. In addition, the children of 3rd grade, with the approval of their parents, prepare to celebrate their First Communion; and the youngsters in 10th grade voluntarily receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and with this conclude their process of Christian initiation. Additionally, to strengthen the life of faith, we have spaces such as community prayer, the Procession of the Virgin, and Christmas novenas.

Pastoral

With our experience in the formation and teachings of faith, we have been able to consolidate a pastoral group made up of parents who, on a voluntary basis, organize activities to which the entire community is invited and to which everyone can put their faith into practice
